I'm a sucker for clever solutions, born from an actual need/idea from a working musician... rather than products foistered upon us which often seem to be more driven by the marketing & sales needs of corporations, than what we might want. Such a thing is the Stompin' Bass from long-time guitar pick-up manufacturers Shadow:- story goes, the guy in the video here, Dominic Wagner has an acoustic combo which plays without a drummer, and for rythmic effect, they used to put a mic in a guitar case and boot it around the stage.
Cool idea, but better is the little box the designers at Shadow came up with to improve things. It's basically a wooden wedge with a built-in pickup designed to emphasise the bottom end - just plug it in, stomp on it, and there y'go - instant bass drum without a drummer or kit.
Now we just need a Stompin' Snare ;-]
