Mike and Dave's Harmony Box is a free software synth, for Mac & PC, that "knows" the rules of modal jazz.

Features:

  • It's a synthesizer that has the rules of modal jazz built-in; you press a key, it plays the right chord. You just pick the key and the mode.
  • Alias-free oscillator
  • Self-oscillating filter.
  • LFOs and Envelopes for fatness.

It's available in Mac AU & VST and Windows VST formats.

These need to be copied to the usual directories:

  • Mac AU: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
  • Mac VST: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
  • Win VST: Wherever your VSTPlugIns folder lives

Harmony Box was created by Mike Massberg and Dave Gamble as part of Music Hack Day, a UK music hackathon, held July 11-12.
