The latest offspring from the melding of Boss, Fender and COSM, is the FRV-1 Fender Vintage Reverb Pedal. Taking the classic sound of Fender's dedicated valve driven Spring Reverberator from 1963 and the Boss/Roland knowhow of their Composite Object Sound Modeling technology and not forgetting their ability to make bullet-proof stomps, this little pedal does exactly what it says it should, with a pretty darned faithfull recreation of the Fender Reverb spring sound. It doesn't do plate, halls or any other of that kind of stuff, just the pure valvey spring from yesteryear. This is the source of the sound of surf, rockabilly and blues and more besided. Amped guitar specialist Rob Chappers, aka The Monkey Lord, took a trip down memory lane. 5 Comments... Post a comment original story ShadyDave Said...
A very informative and comprehensive review as usual.
I have to say that the pedal does sound utterly convincing if you like those Fender Reverbs (and who doesn't) but it was also interesting to note it's equally worthy competitors. 13-Aug-09 09:11 AM Mojo292 Said... As a matter of fact, I'm very impressed (and somewhat tempted) by this pedal. It certainly seems like an excellent addition to any setup that lacks a decent reverb!
The colour of the pedal is a bit of a downer, though... But I guess thats just me!
The Chappers delivers an interesting and painstakingly thorough review once again. Cheers guv'nor. 13-Aug-09 10:50 AM sted Said... Very cool demo and it sounds like a pretty awesome pedal. I thought it sounded pretty spot on when comparing it to the spring reverb on the Rockerverb.
And yeah, Boss pedals will probably last a lifetime! 14-Aug-09 05:17 AM Post a comment
