Music Television Lives - But It's On Demand Now

MTV may have killed off "music television", but music videos are as popular as ever - possibly more popular than ever.

According to a survey of US Internet users by social media analytics firm Sysomos, music is, by far, the most popular category of videos on YouTube.

The top categories of videos are:

1. Music - 31%
2. Entertainment - 15%
3. People and Blogs - 11%
4. News and Politics - 7%
5. Sport - 6%

Music is more than twice as popular as the next category, entertainment.

And, given YouTube's popularity (it's the #3 site in the world), it suggests that music videos are as important as ever.
