Slipknot offered a very emotional farewell today to bassist Paul Gray, who died yesterday in Iowa at the age of 38.

Slipknot members made a rare appearance unmasked for a press conference honoring Gray, broadcast live via the group's Ustream page.

Gray was found dead at the TownePlace Suites hotel in Urbandale, Iowa. An autopsy found no clear cause of death.

"Paul Gray was the essence of the band Slipknot," said drummer Shawn Crahan. "Paul was there from the very very beginning and none of us would be on the path we're on right now in life or have the sorts of lives we have without him."
