Here's an unusual example of sound design using electric guitars.

Sound designer Mike Niederquell recorded power tools through a guitar pickup that was then sent through a Marshall stack.

The resulting sounds were edited and used for many of the transformations and servo sounds in the video game Transformers: War for Cybertron.
