Ranch Sounds And Lightbulbs As Tuned Percussion

Microhammer releases The Ranch and Luminabells sample collections 09-Sep-10
Ranch Sounds And Lightbulbs As Tuned Percussion

Microhammer have released The Ranch and Luminabells. Here's what they have to say about them...

The Ranch

The Ranch is an eclectic collection of exotic "instruments" derived from a Ranch in the great Pacific Northwest. Carrying on the spirit of geographic sonic exploration you'll ?nd in our Roadtrip, Rust and Antidrum series, this new collection covers an eclectic variety of found-sounds and environmental textures, rebuilt and reassembled into playable musical instruments. You'll ?nd things like a "tuned" plow, an extensive scrapyard session, old iron bells, storm winds and windchimes, hissing sprinklers, crickets, birds, bees, percussive foosball tables, footsteps in grass, gravel and dirt, golf carts, hay-balers and many other unusual instruments.

We've added custom control and FX knobs and 45 hand-made convolution impulses to give you free range. We've even included plenty of experimental FX presets based on the original source to give you a few ideas and help plant the seeds of creativity. Our goal was to harvest some the sounds of traditional Ranch living, and then plow them into an endless field of musical bounty.

31 nki instruments, 975 samples (44kHz/24bit stereo), 45 Bonus Impulses, 620 MB
Note: Full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 3.5 or 4 required. The free "Kontakt Player" does not support this library.

Luminabells

The good old incandescent lightbulb has illuminated human existence for over 130 years. In fact, the very concept of a brilliant idea is most often signified by its iconic image. However, as populations explode and resources diminish, that brilliance is becoming a luxury we can't afford. The inefficiencies of Edison's incandescent bulb have at last forced us to move toward Tesla's superior fluorescent design, with its longer life and lower energy use. Yes, the incandescent puts out a warmer, more pleasing light. But just like its vacuum tube cousin, this too will soon be a rare anachronism sought by the purist, but long forgotten by the masses.

The fragile and beautifully musical bell-like aspect of the old incandescent bulb has always fascinated us. We know that time is running out for this poor little device. That is why we must now bring you Luminabells – the mysterious and angelic essence of the simple ordinary light bulb, captured as a tiny, starry galaxy of humble and yet beautiful sounds. We recorded over 40 lightbulbs of all shapes and sizes, lovingly sculpted into a rich collection of resonant tuned percussion, as well as percussive glass and metal taps, clicks, pings, bounces, shakes, filament rattles and tuned hums, buzzes and drones. We also included a special FX section, with ambiences, sustaining melodic tones and otherworldly effects. All presets come with special performance and FX controls to shape the sound, as well as 45 custom convolution impulses.

71 nki instruments, 1511 samples (44kHz/24bit stereo), 45 Bonus Impulses, 663 MB
Note: Full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 3.5 or 4 required. The free "Kontakt Player" does not support this library.
