Sonicprojects have released the OP-X PRO-II software synth. Here's what they have to say about it...
OP-X PRO-II is the new top flagship of the OP series and is the consequent continuation of the development of OP-X PRO, based on many collected wishes of our customers and too own new ideas, in order to make it the perfect dream synth. So this is the proof that your ideas and wishes are very important for us and do not end in the wastepaper! Some of the obvious new features include doubled polyhony, an included patch browser, an effects unit, midi learn and a completely new arpeggiator. But there are also a lot a lot of hidden new features that can be accessed by active GUI zones or multiple button states. This keeps the GUI clean and familiar. Once you've got to know these features you'll see that despite this density the general operation is extremely intuitive and streamlined. A bunch of new one-click quick button calibration features saves a lot of work to handle voice-based settings like tuning trimpots or pans. All of this is based on countless hours of real working experience, to give as streamlined and intuitive handling as possible. So we're pretty sure that you will find at least one feature that always has been on top of your wishlist.
Apart from all these new features OP-X PRO-II comes with a huge built in library offering more than 1'500(!) ready to play patches, organized in 32 categorized banks. This library includes pretty much all former sounds from the other OP series synths exept the really weak ones. We auditioned every single sound of the former library, brought the library in new shape, kicked out the bad sounds, improved them (e.g. adapted release times or aftertouch settings which often did respond to easily dependent on the keyboard), and extended the library with hundreds of fantastic new sounds. For the synth emulating banks we did a lot of research to offer the most authentic patches possible. The popular 80ies hits famous bank too has been enhanced with dozens of new sounds and even complete soundsets for whole songs. Last but not least OP-X PRO-II is able to load all former OP-X PRO sounds with identical sound. So you will be able to furthermore use all of your custom made OP-X PRO sounds, and enhance them with the new features, add effects, etc. Last but not least the new patch browser makes it easy to save edited patches and create your own custom banks.
For this new synth we apart from all other things especially had the live musicians in mind. Since the synth now has a built in patch browser and an effects unit it's pretty much self contained and only needs a very simple free vst host to run, as e.g. the Hermann Seib SaviHost, which is an ideal live host for this synth with no unneeded overhead and incredibly easy setting up. Furthermore the midi engine offers midi learn and full midi feedback support for endless rotary controller setups. Last but not least, and this is pretty unique amongst vst synths, is the ability to handle incoming controller data either relative or fetched to avoid the well known value jumps using standard controllers.
For mac users we now offer an adapted version for the free VFX application from SM Pro Audio. This makes it possible to play and use OP-X PRO-II within intel based macs. The VFX application is a stand alone vst host with a wine core that makes it possible to use compatible windows plugins in other operating systems. Since it's a stand alone application you can't use the synth directly as plugin in your sequencer, but using the free Cycling74 SoundFlower and the OS-X internal IAC drivers it's easy to establish an audio/midi connection to your sequencer to bring the sounds of OP-X PRO-II onto your tracks.
The unique Separate Voice Design (SVD), the core technology of all our OP series synths, has been consequently extended for OP-X PRO-II. All twelve voices still are completely separate synths with separate signal path, but controlled with a 6-channel structure to keep things hadlable. New seamless blending options and one-click trimpot calibration now puts the final crown on it.
