Great idea this and surprising that its not been done before, but we all know that the work that we slavishly ponder over, endlessly tweaking to get the finest possible mix and arrangement is then squashed down to a compressed format for web dleivery in most cases. We rarely get the opportunity to actually adjust the mix to the codec, at least not without a cycle of bounce and tweak, bounce and tweak. Procodec , a collaboration between Fraunhofer - the folks who make these codecs and Sonnox Plugins - a well respected plug-in manufacturer, fixes all that. With up to five different codecs all monitoring in real-time, you can hear exactly how the mix will sound in real-time and make production adjustments accordingly to ensure the final compressed audio will sound the best it can in its given format. Available in a few weeks at around $499 - Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar, Sequoia and Wavelab. (Mac and PC)
