Audiofile Engineering, creators of professional audio software for Mac OS X and iOS, has released FiRe 2, a new version of their field recording App that has been redesigned and rewritten from the ground up with a host of new features for the latest iOS devices.
Matthew Foust, founding partner of Audiofile Engineering, told us, "Although already recognized by audio professionals as a best-in-class field recorder. We decided to rewrite FiRe from the ground up and create a next generation product incorporating many of the features our users have requested since FiRe's initial release." Here's the rest of what Audiofile Engineering has to say...
FiRe was the first iPhone recorder to display an accurate audio waveform in real time, the first to support markers, Broadcast WAVE metadata, and the downloading of files in multiple file formats. for immediate release FiRe was the first application on any platform to offer native SoundCloud integration.
Now, FiRe 2 incorporates into its original elegant design a stunning list of powerful new features including:
  • Advanced editing suite with SmartEdits, Bezier fades, change gain, normalize, looping playback, regions and more
  • Improved Transport screen with faster and smoother drawing and larger waveform view
  • EQ and Dynamics effects developed by Audiofile Engineering
  • iTunes file transfer
  • Enhanced input processing powered by iZotope™
  • Record in background
  • Dropbox integration
Editing Suite
FiRe 2 features a powerful editing suite that utilizes Audiofile's SmartEdits technology from their dedicated audio editing application Wave Editor. Simply rotating the iOS device to landscape view allows easy editing with cut, copy, paste, delete, crop and remove. Further editing features including applying Bezier fades, change gain, normalize, remove DC offset, and loop playback.
iTunes Sharing
Start recording right away in FiRe, and worry about file format later. When the time comes to share recordings, users can choose AIFF, WAVE, CAF, AAC, Apple Lossless, Podcast, Ogg Vorbis, and FLAC, and with a few taps send them to a computer via iTunes Sharing.
SoundCloud and Dropbox
FiRe was the first application on any platform to offer native SoundCloud integration. Record and publish to a SoundCloud account in just a few taps. FiRe now adds the most widely used file sharing service on the web – Dropbox. With just a few taps, recordings can be uploaded to a Dropbox account.
EQ and Dynamics
Audiofile Engineering has created new EQ and Dynamics that include compression and expansion with the ability to adjust threshold, ratio, attack time, release time, and input and output gain as well as three EQ filters: Highpass, Lowpass, and a Band Cut/Boost filter.
Powered by iZotope
FiRe 2 features unique input processing presets developed by iZotope. And with FiRe's play-through feature, audio can be monitored before recording to make sure the desired preset is selected. The new presets include Dictation, Interview, Lecture, and Office Mode in addition to many more from the previous version.
FiRe 2 requires iOS 4.2 on an iPhone 3GS/4, 3rd/4th gen iPod touch, iPad, or iPad 2. FiRe 1.5 is still available for older iOS devices.
