Soundiron introduces Mars Epic Male Slavonic & Latin Choir library with a pre-order discount      26/08/11
Soundiron has formally announced their soon-to-be-released Mars Epic Male Slavonic & Latin Choir library. Mars features a full 30-voice male chorus as well as 3 soloists singing in both Slavonic (Russian Orthodox liturgical) and Latin. A wide variety of content is included for both languages, as well as a collection of choral effects (powerful shouts, sweeps, clusters, etc.). Here's what Soundiron has to say about it
We've included 2 masterfully mixed composite microphone positions (close/stage and far/hall), carefully blended from an array of 10 large diaphragm Neumann Microphones, arrayed in wide stereo pairs, ranging in distance from 1 meter to 25 meters. The two-composite position configuration allows the best balance between placement, flexibility and performance, while providing a truly massive, robust and full-bodied sound. With Mars, we are aiming for versatility. Instead of focusing on one language, we chose to go with a wide range of both Slavonic and Latin content so composers can add more flavor to their tracks. We spent 10 days in our favorite church recording an ensemble chorus from the San Francisco Choral Society, conducted by the esteemed maestro Robert Geary, capturing the nuances of the male human voice.
Mars is all about power, both on the thunderous low-end and up through the prisitine highs. It includes 2 mic positions (stage and hall) so composers have the flexibility to incorporate the full-bodied sound of Mars easily into their mix, either independently, as multitracked layers or in surround. We took all that we've learned from choral library recording and creation and applied them here to make certain Mars is the most playable, diverse, musical and highest quality male choral library in the world.
In addition to our 5 true legato vowel sustains (ah, oh, oo forte, oo piano, and mm), ALL sustaining articulations in the library include our special 3-part polyphonic pseudo-legato, wich simulates legato in realtime for up to thee simultanous counter-melodies. You'll find the system in all marcatos, all vowel sustains, fast, slow and 3/4 gregorian polysustains, soloist slow & melodic poly-sustains and vowel sustains. For our Marcato section, we started with 24 unique infinitely sustaining marcatos and took it farther, with the ability to combine any marcato attack, any sustaining vowel and any release to create an incredible variety of short and long sustains and syllables. We've also expanded the Phrase Builder tool to allow up to 16 independent user-configurable 16-step patterns, with on-the-fly switching between marcattos and staccatos.
We also captured 3 world-class soloists, with a powerfully rich bass singing both Russian and Latin, and a dedicated unique tenor voice for each language. We covered 8 Vowel sustains w/ round-robin & release, 10 Standard Slow Polysustains and a deep collection of dramatic and emotional melodic solo phrases.
Mars also features a unique bonus collection of Ambiences, Drones, Textures and FX content, as well as a wide collection of new and classic custom convolution impulses integrated into every preset. You'll also enjoy a range of automatatable built-in effects, EQ and total control over a wide array of performance parameters. We captured the library in 24bit / 48kHz, with fully-open standard format PCM wav samples, with unlocked sample directories and standard Kontakt 4.2.3 open-format programming. The library includes well over 12,000 samples and weighs in at over 15 GB. This standard unlocked open-format Kontakt library that requires the full retail version of Kontakt 4.2.3 or later to use.

So now they are splitting the choir up into its sections and charging a fortune for each one.

The demo is also tacky and cliched - choirs laced in effects and bass drums - clearly they are targeting games compositions on the lowest ring of the ladder.

There are dozens of better and more cost effective offering out there. This compmay needs to wake up and smell the roses is they think that people are going to pay £300+ for a single choir section with quite restricted use.
