The music community mourned the news of R.E.M.'s break-up last week, but fans will be able to take solace in the news that the band are releasing their final recordings as part of a greatest hits package.
The set will be titled Part Lies, Part Truth, Part Heart, Part Garbage: 1982 - 2011.
Reports on Rolling Stone suggest that the album will include R.E.M.'s last recordings, which were recorded earlier in 2011.
The band released this statement upon their break-up:
"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."
