Eric Clapton Signature Amplifiers

Fender announces the EC Series of three tweed amps 05-Oct-11

In a historic collaboration, Fender has introduces its first artist signature amplifiers, the EC Series amps bearing the name of Eric Clapton.

Fender tell us that, built to the exacting specifications of Clapton himself, the three amps--the EC Twinolux, EC Tremolux and EC Vibro-Champ--are fascinating variations on their original '50s-era ancestors (the '57 Twin, '57 Deluxe and '57 Champ, respectively), and are their answer to his call for special models with distinctive features.

Handmade in the United States, all three amp models feature '50s--era output tube bias tremolo (which produces a more throbbing pulse than later Fender tremolo circuits) and a switchable power attenuator (reduces speaker output), in addition to other premium features.

In a historic career now in its sixth decade, Eric Clapton has long been known as one of the world's foremost exponents of classic Fender tweed amp tone, and the company say that the three new amps bearing his imprint present the pinnacle of personally inspired amp tone for stage and studio alike. They believe that tach is a must for Clapton fans and guitarists who want the ultimate in tweed tube amp performance.

There's the Greats...and there's the Nobody's...It's still easy to tell which is which, especially on Noob Tube...D/.

124slowhand 14-May-12 12:52 AM

they dont sound like a real one.

CAL7A 09-May-12 05:05 AM

I always though Buddy had the best blues chops of all the players - including SRV. Buddy has like superhuman fingers. JMO though.

Salguine 08-May-12 11:56 PM

Don't be yet another idiot who equates sales figures with whether something is good or not. The airwaves are clogged with music that sells millions and is complete shit.

brandonlace 08-May-12 11:17 PM

slowhand was a good album. Layla and other assorted love songs too. I would still agree that E.C`s best years were with cream.

TheDilligan 02-May-12 12:50 PM

Yeah man! so many guitarists forget that... also, many people look down at penatonic scales and people who use them.. Eric Clapton could of easily been able to play other notes if he wanted, do they really think that he just isn't good enough to play other notes? I actually started with full scales and went to penatonics because i love the sound of them, their all i want to use and i want to learn to use them to their full ability

TheDilligan 02-May-12 12:47 PM

clapton ays he's gotten worse, but some of his best solos were in the past 20 years. just look up Eric Clapton Solo, on here and youll find an awesome solo from I shot the sherriff at the first crossroads festival. Jeff beck is still fantastic. Bb King has gotten worse but hes still good and kept it up perfectly up until he was like 80.. I think Eddie van halens gotten better in some ways but worse in others.. and i never seen jimmy page solo while hes had gray hair..

TheDilligan 02-May-12 12:43 PM

Lol i don't entirely aggree with that but that doesn't make it any less hilarious to me

TheDilligan 02-May-12 12:41 PM

Totally right man!

Maruuk 02-May-12 04:26 AM

Buddy's not about amps much. He loved the 1971 Ovation 50-watt solid-state keyboard amp (15" w/horn) I set him up with for a Winterland gig when his amp got stolen. And of course, he sounded great through it as he always does. Though it did give him a little extra hard-edged Albert King bite! I bet a lot of kids ran out and bought one the next day. "So THAT'S how he sounds like that!" hehe Buddy would sound like Buddy through a First Act 10 watt Toys R Us special. Buddy just IS, baby. Da Man.

kickerpunter 25-Apr-12 01:03 PM

but i like my coffee black and clapton's solo stuff...

uyworldtraveler 22-Apr-12 06:46 PM

I drink coffee black, because I'm cool.

VHT418 21-Apr-12 05:18 PM

Except Beck just sits around tuning hot rods all day haha.

phillieg26 20-Apr-12 01:30 AM

It ain't the speed of the playing, it's the selection of notes and the phrasing. I find the Satriani's and the like incredibly B O R I N G.... ZZZZZzzzzzz......

tanukibrahma 19-Apr-12 11:21 PM

Amp sounds too clean to sing the blues.

zedthewizard26 19-Apr-12 10:13 PM

people get older. they usually lose some ability (except maybe beck). no matter our interests the body and mind absorbs less as you get older and sheds some information and skills. but, your all missing the point.

skillzdatkillz900 19-Apr-12 08:19 PM

why are YOU getting so aggressive/defensive and CONSTANTLY using CAPITALS to emphasise YOUR POINT? I'm not saying he's not popular, i'm simply expressing my opinion, which i forgot i'm not allowed to do because of members of the internet stasi like yourself stopping me.

coxinha467 19-Apr-12 01:29 AM

very good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guitarvirtuoso666 19-Apr-12 01:07 AM

agreed, but nonetheless, he didn't sound good in this vid

Dadraine 19-Apr-12 12:34 AM

Your missing the point YOU can think he sucks all you want but, wherever he plays HE SELLS OUT THE VENUE, and those songs that YOU dont like, has sold MILLIONS, so as it turns out he doesn't need your support

skillzdatkillz900 18-Apr-12 11:56 PM

i know, i completely agree with you in that respect. HOWEVER, i don't even think his songs are that good; in all aspects of musicianship i think he's boring as fuck

Dadraine 18-Apr-12 11:50 PM

Well, alot of people can play guitar, but the thing is, CAN YOU WRITE SONGS THAT SELL MILLIONS, ya see your average everyday ordinary joe can play guitar and criticize, but the trick is WRITING SONGS, you can be the best guitar player, but if your songs suck then who cares.

skillzdatkillz900 17-Apr-12 03:45 PM

good to know i'm not alone :) i feel arrogant in saying that he's boring because i'm obviously not amazing ahah, but still!

xsamitt 17-Apr-12 03:43 PM

Don't feel bad...I don't get it either.Buddy has made a good living because of top players saying he can play.I find him bland.

TheRealRayJ 16-Apr-12 10:41 PM

NEVER get Buddy Guy to demo an amp. The dude uses solid-state amps for Christ sake. Tin ear.

wisesatyr72 15-Apr-12 10:11 PM

BadAss all the way !

Salguine 14-Apr-12 05:31 AM

That's basically what I meant. You know what, though? It finally dawned on me when the suckage began. It was when he switched from Gibson guitars to Fenders. His playing changed overnight; all the fire went out of it. I'm frankly surprised that neither he nor anyone around him has picked up on that.

sprucetree49 13-Apr-12 10:52 PM

What about John Mayall and the Yardbirds. Or even Delaney and Bonnie. When he went solo it was all downhill.

sprucetree49 13-Apr-12 10:51 PM

Buddy sounds like everyone now. In fact, everyone sounds like everyone now. Too many guitarists.

D4017 12-Apr-12 03:58 PM

Watch as Tom Brady tries out this new football, Like any of use will be able to do that just cause why buy the amp lol

xsamitt 11-Apr-12 07:18 PM

Is this Fenders way of trying to get us to Not buy these amps?If so ...Good Job.

homin32 11-Apr-12 03:04 PM

asda;slk;alk;alklwak;ldsdd n sdddsddsklak;alw=e

bennyfromthe72 11-Apr-12 07:32 AM

Haha, I got it, don't worry ;D

xsamitt 11-Apr-12 02:57 AM

A clear example of too many razor blades.

Salguine 11-Apr-12 01:43 AM

i don't drink coffee one way or the other. I think you've missed the point.

bennyfromthe72 11-Apr-12 01:18 AM

Sorry, but black coffee rocks.

vintagesound29 07-Apr-12 03:14 PM

I'd love to see you be a better player than Buddy. Go on. Prove it. We'll all judge that.

Carthsgtr 07-Apr-12 02:02 PM

Clapton is god, Buddy is a tool and a mediocre guitar player with an extremely bad ear for tone and pitch. I am a better player than Buddy is. I wouldn't be surprised if you were too. Not only that, but this video proved the "bluesman" is a fucking sellout as well.

vintagesound29 29-Mar-12 08:20 PM

All these comments about how Clapton, Buddy, (insert guitarist) suck are just pitiful. You wonder why music isn't as good as it used to be? It's because people like you are jaded and don't know what music is about anymore. It isn't a sport.

Go shut your mouths and play your guitar more.

TheKonstantinLevin 29-Mar-12 06:35 PM

So he didn't choose this instead of his fourty years old original amps? LOL advertisment and semiotic... do u wanna play that game?

Fishies125 28-Mar-12 11:42 PM

How dare you, sir...Coffee is just fine without cream.

monkeybass01 28-Mar-12 06:23 PM

Yeah, out of all the other Fender amps he could have chosen for this gig that was sponsored by Fender he chose that particular amp.

There's no conspiracy here, move along these aren't the droids you're looking for...

skillzdatkillz900 25-Mar-12 03:59 PM

yeh, maybe its just me but i think some of the notes he holds sound flat

regelemihai 24-Mar-12 07:01 PM

I respect your opinion. Maybe if listen more to his playing it will become apparent to me too. Who knows.

Have a good one ;)

skillzdatkillz900 24-Mar-12 12:54 PM

yeh i don't mean it that way though. I know BB King isn't the fastet of players, but there's something unique about him. I'm sure there is something unique about Buddy Guy too, but i just can't see it

PhantomCover 22-Mar-12 12:13 AM

are you guys crazy? listen to his From the Cradle album. then talk

nznaturopath 21-Mar-12 11:24 PM

yeah my thoughts exactly. I listened to Cream the other day and thought, "why the fuck did they ever split up"? wow, so so so much better than eric on his own, which always brings on lots of snoring.

regelemihai 21-Mar-12 04:57 AM

Average in what way? BB King can't play crazy rifs and fast licks either. That doesn't make him any less great.

Orieus 20-Mar-12 07:21 PM

haha yea he just decided that night hahaha, im sure fender had nothing to do with it lol. gotta love it when they try to bullshit us into thinking it was some random gig and has nothing to do with fender sponsoring the event, marketing etc. souls are for sale cheap these days i guess

skillzdatkillz900 20-Mar-12 06:53 PM

I love everything about guitar, improvising, blues, rock etc BUT, i don't, and never will, see why Buddy Guy is so celebrated. i think he just sounds average;
