Guthrie Govan Talks To Loud Guitars

Twiddler Extraordinaire discusses his top moments 08-Oct-11

LoudGuitars.com caught up with Guthrie Govan for a chat about inspirational moments and his approach to playing guitar.

The guitarist talks about his touring life with just one guitar (a Suhr if you're interested), and how much he enjoyed playing a festival tour with UK hip-hop artist, Dizzie Rascal.

He also says that his approach to playing guitar is "[...] don't worry about speed." This is slightly controversial, considering that Guthrie can play with incredible speed, but his message to other guitarists is to "invent music in your head", and to play it with your fingers.

For more information on the extremely talented Mr. G, and his new band, The Aristocrats, head over to their website at this location.

You can watch the full interview above.

I'm yet to see an interview with Guthrie where a question about playing fast ISN'T asked.

The great thing about Guthrie is that he is one of a handful bunch of players out there that proves a great heart is needed in order to create great music. Generosity, humility, respect and consideration for everyone that gives guitar a try, successful or not in their own way. Talk about the Greats forget about the others, but respect to everyone no matter what is fundamental. Kudos GG!

AtanasovPetar 16-Oct-11 03:01 PM

Confirmed what?If you don't like Pantera and Exodus you can go fuck yourself.

AtanasovPetar 16-Oct-11 02:57 PM

Mentioning Alan haha?Holdsworth is the greatest guitarist on the planet. If you think otherwise there is just no point in talking to you.Your opinion means nothing. You may listen to Coltrane that doesn't mean you know what he is doing.I am done with this conversation you have the right to your stupid opinion.

hanifabidin90 16-Oct-11 01:43 PM

hahaha you shit, you are just some guys trying to be smarter and have wide musical taste mentioning Alan haha, I'm a fan of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Pat Metheny, John Mclaughlin, and I can say that Guthrie improvisation is superb.....even compared to great jazz guitarist........you dont prove you smart by mentioning John Scofield etc, you just prove youre stupid and idiot........

ARAUZ1625 15-Oct-11 06:33 AM

did anyone else get hungry when he talked about his guitar???

theryan2112 14-Oct-11 10:09 PM

The user that said AtanasovPetar "have chip on his shoulder" was dead on. Confirmed that myself after checking his 3 video on his channel... people nowadays, ouch! No comment. Why would anyone compare Rock Fusion with Jazz Fusion hence Guthrie "vs" Holdsworth or Scofield? More advanced or not, it's irrelevant.... you either like what they do or you don't. The 3 of them are unique, but considering the amount of players in jazz fusion these days, GG got my Dig for originality.

o0Slipdisc0o 13-Oct-11 08:23 PM

For somebody who's responses can be summed up by haughty, childish and hollow remarks about people's education and knowledge, you provide awfully little substance yourself professor. Lecturing about Holdsworth (who I adore) and Govan, in the meantime admitting to your low experience in jazz fusion? So basically you know nothing about the genre where both men have left giant footprints? You make as much sense as a pair of clappering buckteeth on a vibrating coffee table...

rexasul 12-Oct-11 06:41 PM

I'm not going to argue with someone who hasn't done their research. Fuck off back into your hole.

Will137 12-Oct-11 12:41 PM

Here's an explanation - you're a prick. Now stop posting.

rexasul 12-Oct-11 12:55 AM

Holy fuck you're stupid.

rexasul 11-Oct-11 11:39 PM

LOL, are you for real? You obviously haven't listened to enough Govan.

Will137 10-Oct-11 03:56 PM

Wow i stand corrected - obviously you need to contact Guthrie and offer him some guitar lessons!! hahaha, you sir... are a NOB.

JonBrogaard 08-Oct-11 12:39 PM

What Guthrie says is, "if you must play fast, play good stuff fast". There's nothing wrong with "shredding" if it's still music. Just don't get up on stage and play a "play like john Petrucci excersise" for two hours.

Will137 08-Oct-11 12:24 PM

Someone's got a chip on their shoulder, haven't they....

Loudguitars514 07-Oct-11 03:35 PM

, I do not think Guthrie is bashing shred he is just explaining that you should walk and master walking before trying to run.

oscarsstuff 07-Oct-11 02:34 PM
