SampleTank is the first pro-quality, sample-based sound and groove workstation available for the iOS mobile platform. It can be played directly from the app or can be used live with any MIDI keyboard or pad controller with the iRig™ MIDI interface adapter from IK Multimedia. IK Multimedia says that, together with iRig MIDI, SampleTank offers the most portable and best quality sound and groove production solution for mobile musicians to date.
The SampleTank 1.1 update adds a 4-track MIDI recorder that enables the mobile musician to record beats, grooves or complete songs anytime and everywhere. The new recorder features quantize and loop functions, export to audio and integration with the built-in pattern player making SampleTank a full-featured mobile sound and groove workstation. Plus, says IK, the new beat-making interface with assignable pads makes groove creation a breeze.
IK says that the impressive number of sounds and patterns has grown even further with this update. The number of included instruments has doubled in the regular version and now exceeds 500 total available instruments. SampleTank now also includes over 1,000 professionally programmed patterns so that anyone can make music regardless of prior musical ability. Instruments and patterns are organized into 16 categories including Pianos, Organs, Strings, Basses, Guitars, Drums, Synths, Woodwinds, Brass, Ethnic Instruments, Percussion and more all instantly accessible from a single app to create any style of music.
Additionally SampleTank 1.1 update also adds increased compatibility with third party iOS docks and accessories plus many more new features.

More information:
So does this support CoreMIDI, or is it just another gimmick to buy IK hardware -- like Amplitube is for iRig?
Also, can one send MIDI from other controllers (like GeoSynth) to this?

Everything IK=Gimmick.
I think Sampletank sounds like old timey mp3s and you need a magnifying glass and interpreter to wade through the hoops to get it to work. It's Can of worms every single time. but they try.
