Get Ryan Greene's Drum Sound

Latest in the Propellerhead ReFill Creator Series is Ryan Greene Alt Drums 26-Jan-12

Q: What do Megadeth, Jay-Z, Alice Cooper, Gladys Knight, NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use For a Name, Patty La Belle, and Tower of Power have in common with Rock Band and Guitar Hero? A: Legendary punk rock producer and mixer Ryan Greene. And now anyone can be on that list, with three new drum ReFills featuring Ryan Greene's signature sound. Propellerhead are releasing the latest installments in their ReFill Creator Series: Ryan Greene Alt Drums

Propellerhead tells us that Alt Drums satisfies your urge to thrash in three ReFill volumes: Alt Drums 1-3. Each volume includes three drum kits each with alternate snare drums and different room and overhead microphone placement presets.

They say that Alt Drums includes combinators with custom reverb, compressor, and distortion patches designed to keep your drums sounding huge and powerful no matter how many layers of guitars you pile on top of them and MIDI files of live-played beats in a variety of hard-hitting genres for you to load up into your song and go. Here's how Propellerhead describes each of the three volumes...

The Volumes

  • The first Alt Drums ReFill features Ryan Greene's own Pork Pie kit, used on a lot of Greene's Punk/Fat Wreck Chords productions throughout the years, as well as a versatile Gretsch kit and a deep sounding vintage Leedy kit. An additional three snares are included, ranging from classic rock sound to heavier punk.
  • The star of the Alt Drums 2 ReFill is a 1964 Ludwig Liverpool kit - recorded and produced as if it was played by the Mötley Crüe, bringing a sound like no other. This pack also has a vintage Leedy kit customized by the John Covington and a Tama kit played by Troy Luccketta of the band Tesla. Added are three more snare drums, including a Leedy from the 1890's!
  • For Alt Drums 3 Troy Luccketta from multi-platinum rock band Tesla played a one of a kind Camco kit. The aggressive and warm sound of this kit built in 1956, and all the power that Troy brings when he hits a drum makes it a go-to kit for punk and rock productions. Included are also a wooden Ayotte kit, and a big and powerful Leedy kit with a 28-inch kick drum. Three extra snare drums come with the pack, among them the rare Yamaha Vinnie Colaiuta, and the Dave Weckl signature model.

Pricing and Availability:
89.00 EUR per volume.

He really leans on his punk world experience.Whatever sells I guess. My experience is never lean to much on Mr. one world,And never lean to much on Pc programs,It will make your live shows suffer.Spend your money on real world instruments. Not programs that say,You can do whatever you want! With the stuff I choose for you.Take control of your own sound with what I tell you to do!I get sick thinking about it.

Yeah hey Propellerhead.... Ryan Greene did an outstanding job but the price is irrational. I guarantee it would sell like hotcakes if it was only $50 per volume. I'd get all three. People are broke these days and I, like many musicians, am a starving artist dying to own and use the Alt Drums Refills!

Just went to buy one of them but for whatever reason I can only choose to buy it in Euros which is more expensive than the USD equivalent. Big fan of his sound but 89EUR for a digital copy without a demo refill to try out means I'll sit this one out.

As it's digital-only I'd imagine halving the price would double the sales, no?
