"Come and meet the experts and play with all the latest gear!" says Sound Gallery, the organizers of this year's Analogue to Digital Music Expo, which takes place on Saturday 21 April at Exeter Phoenix. Now on it's 4th year and attracting over 800 people in one day, this unique music industry event is packed with workshops, hands-on demos, performances, Q&A's, music industry panels and studio surgeries featuring some of the industry's leading experts in music production and synthesis, guest speakers and renowned producers and musicians. Here's all the details in Sound Gallery's own words...
A2D brings together the cream of music technology companies and manufacturers fresh from international shows - the NAMM show in USA and Musikmesse in Germany - to present all the very latest and greatest equipment & software for amateur and professional musicians, performers, songwriters, DJs, engineers and producers in the cultural heart of Exeter!
On the day you can try out the latest technology in music recording, production and performance, including guitar and bass technology, drums and soft synths and most importantly speak to the experts about how to get the most out of this amazing equipment! The show spreads over 4 zones, including a live auditorium, media centre, workshop areas and a professional recording studio. The day culminates into the legendary prize draw of £6,000+ worth of music software and hardware!
This boutique event showcases cutting-edge music software, hardware and instruments used in music creation, production and performance, from the likes of AVID (Pro-Tools), Shure, Native Instruments, Time + Space, Quested Monitors, TfPro, Yamaha, alongside smaller, quirkier companies: Reactable from Barcelona, Soundbeam, Eigenlabs, Analogue Systems and Skoog! Thanks to support from the PRS for Music Foundation, the event will also showcase some of the most contemporary Apps available for music production and performance, featuring Reactable Mobile from Barcelona, Yamaha TNR-i, iMaschine, as well as Apps from Korg and IKMultimedia.
Music industry panels run throughout the day with music legends, producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, MUSE), Paul Gray (Musicians Union, ex-Damned) and mastering legend Simon Heyworth, who share their personal experiences with those who wish to pursue a career in the music industry. Paul White and Hugh Robjohns from Sound On Sound magazine (our official media sponsors) give technical advice and guidance to musicians, sound engineers and producers. We are also pleased to welcome keyboard/synthesiser player and programmer Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree) and Roger O'Donnell (The Cure, Psychedelic Furs).
The event is run by Sound Gallery CIC, a social enterprise which provides opportunities in the music industry for young people who are at risk of social exclusion and runs a commercial recording studio - Sound Gallery Studios - in the basement floor at Exeter Phoenix. Sound Gallery are quietly involved in a variety of activities, from pre-production for artists such as Duffy, live sessions with The Steve Cradock band, Curved Air and more, to providing rehearsal facilities for the likes of Finlay Quay, The Computers, hundreds of local bands and voice-over recordings for the BBC (One Show, Rick Mayall), TV adverts (Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall) and even New York based advertising agency JWT for the recent Smirnoff advert!
Sound Gallery has successfully forged links with the music industry in London and abroad and have established Analogue to Digital as an annual event that has put Exeter on the map as a leading host for music technology and innovation in the Southwest. "This is the show we feel the music industry needs as it gives real networking opportunities for both companies and musicians" says Jim Peters, managing director of Sound Gallery.
