Unlike conventional sound libraries where each sound is typically optimized for its standalone qualities, the sounds in the Infinity Kit have been carefully processed to ensure that they work optimally when combined together. The designers say that this allows for the rapid production of deep, richly textured drum sounds with no frequency clashes, phasing or unwanted gain boosts.
Andy Avgousti, owner of MPC-Samples.com, told Sonic State, "Traditionally drum layering in an Akai MPC sampler has been very much a hit-and-miss affair, and typically one that required in-depth knowledge of advanced frequency manipulation techniques. With the Infinity Kit, that hard work has already been performed for you, so fat drum layers can be created quickly and painlessly simply by assigning any number of the sounds to a spare MPC pad until you find a killer combination. And as all the sounds are designed to fit together perfectly, no further processing is required. It really speeds up the entire beat making process."
There are 192 drum and percussion samples in the kit; 48 snares, 48 claps, 48 hats and 48 kicks, all in MPC-Friendly 16 bit WAV format. Also included are 8 'layer programs' each containing 64 example layers laid across each MPC pad, giving an additional 512 drum sounds and scope for thousands more.
The Infinity Kit is currently fully compatible with the Akai MPC1000, MPC2500, MPC5000, MPC4000 and MPC500, and works equally well in both Akai and 'JJ' operating systems. A version for older MPCs is currently being developed.
