Sad news that Jon Lord, rock organist and keyboard player best known for his amazing contribution to the sound of rock legends Deep Purple, passed away recently aged 71.
Deep Purple featured a lot in my musical background whilst I was a kid, and listening back to some of those classic tracks has been a reminder of that time and how big Deep Purple really were. Possibly one of the last true big rock acts of that era.
After digging around on Youtube, I put a few moments of Jon Lord with Deep Purple together, starting with what looks like a fashion accident where they perform Hush for a young Hugh Hefner, along with a touching performance of Jon Lord with Sam Browne performing Wait A While.
Finally a fab rockumentary on the recording of the album Machine Head in Montreux, Switzerland where the classic Smoke on the Water was written.
Enjoy.
Developments for Korg's instrument have been slow but promising.
