Sony SoundForge Pro Available on OS X

Longserving audio editor makes the leap      09/10/12

Buying Choices

Back in 2003 Sony Creative Software bought Sonic Foundry for a cool $18 mill. Amongst the programs Sony got was Sound Forge - one of the go-to applications for audio recording, editing and mangling on the PC.
It supports a massive range of audio formats, stereo and multi-channel recording and editing - full DAW style, plug-in support  and video playback.

Many people swear by it, and it continues to be developed by Sony alongside it's Sony Vegas Video editing software (we use that here).

At the end of the Summer, it was announced that Sound Forge Pro was to be available for OS X - together with a refined interface and various other enhancements. And now that is in fact the case with the official release of V1.0 just a few days back.

It raises an interesting point about single platform software - we’re now getting to the point where we expect to have our tools available on any platform we choose - well at least  Windows and OS X - in the future perhaps Linux too. If you look at the development of Bitwig, the DAW which is designed to be working at feature parity across all three platforms, I think we can see where this ultimately is all going.
