Rock n' Roll, teenage rebellion, protest - the things that music has brought to us over the years - and something that has allowed the Grammys to celebrate since 1959. Although perhaps that pre 1960's era was more innocent - check out some of the winners back then:
Record of the Year- Domenico Modugno for "Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu (Volare)"
Album of the Year - Henry Mancini for The Music from Peter Gunn
Song of the Year - Domenico Modugno for "Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu (Volare)"
Yay! Lets hear it for Henry the Man, but a great year Domenico.
No doubt all the attendees were tuxedo wearing smooth-talkers, sporting cigarettes and trophy wives.
Fast forward to Gammys 2013 and CBS - who broadcasted the event, sent out what can only be described as fashion directives:
"Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic."
and it goes without saying:
"Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible 'puffy' bare skin exposure."
I'm guessing male nudity hasn't been much of an issue over recent years, more so the newly invented wardrobe malfunction, first coined by Janet Jackson after she let a nipple slip out on live TV and hit the headlines during the superbowl 2004 half time - she nearly had poor Justin Timberlake's eye out.
Of course given such a massive TV platform, the temptation for artists who are perhaps not at the top of their careers to "accidentally" cause a scandal that can't help but promote them into the gossip rags is too much to bear, unless threatened with CBS strength legal stuff.
But kudos to Deadmau5 for even daring to wear something controversial which had the S taped over for the live TV segment, leaving his hat saying "Your hit bums me out" - which is just as good actually.
But he does look like he'd either A) not be there at all or B) be wearing his maus head.
Unfortunately, there won't be any hardware for the smallest room in his house (or should that be hau5?), he lost out to Skrillex on both categories he was nominated in:
Best Dance/Electronica Album
>Album Title Goes Here< - DeadMau5
Best Remixed Recording (Non Classical)
The Veldt (Tommy Trash Remix) - Thomas Olsen, Remixer (deadmau5 Featuring Chris James)
Better luck next year Mr Mau5.
