Gotye are an unusual band - with the phenomenal success of "Somebody" and the recent Grammy sweep, you might expect them to be more of a "product" with marketing strategy and stuff, but it still looks like they have retained their human aspect. Their recordings are interesting and have unusual instrumentation - which is a refreshing change from the general formulaic approve to much chart music.
In this short film about the making of the track Eyes Wide Open (#22 US alternative music chart 2010) - Gotye explains how it came about. As well as the physical process, he talks about the sentiment behind it and the songwriting process.

i keep forgetting that until a year or so ago most of the world had never heard of gotye, so it's weird hearing people expecting "them" to be manufactured or have some sort of marketing strategy behind the image/sound. wally just made the music as he had in the past, and then the whole thing blew up.
