This may appeal to drummers so let's hope it's got lots of pictures and easy words in big print...
Dr. Gareth Dylan Smith, drum tutor and Diploma Programme Leader at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, has released his first book 'I Drum, Therefore I am'.  This book is written about drummers, by a drummer, and is an academic account of what is takes to be a drummer. The Institute says that it is a fascinating and enlightening read for musicians, teachers and academics looking for a deeper understanding of a group of people who have been central to so much of the world's experience of music. Here's more details on it in their own words...

The Institute is proud to benefit from a high standard of quality teaching staff and as a member of the Institute's faculty; Dr. Smith is prime example of this. He is also an active scholar, specialising in the sociology and cultural psychology of music and music education, with a PhD in Sociology of Music and Music Education. Drums and over 20 years' experience playing, teaching and writing. As a keen writer, Dr. Smith has also developed the music blog DrDrumsblog.com, as well as contributing to Horizon Vu Music and writing a regular monthly column in Rhythm magazine providing a succession of drum tutorials.

The book takes an in-depth and at times lighthearted look at the stereotypes of drummers, who Dr. Smith has observed for over two decades. He looks at how drummers see themselves, and how and why they think they get along with other musicians the way they do. There is also a fascinating exploration of gender and ethnicity as they relate to the experiences of musicians. And while the book is unashamedly about drummers, it is aimed at all musicians, educators, scholars and anyone with an interest in music or learning.
