Nile Rodgers And Chic Rock Glastonbury

Rich Hilton - a podcast regular was playing in the band      29/06/13

Its not often we big up our podcast guests to this extent, but last night at Glastonbury Festival,  Chic rocked the house. I had a sneaking suspicion that it would be a seminal gig - its got all the ingredients, massive back catalog of classic disco records that have become a part of the international musical conciousness in the same way that the Beatles or Abba have done.

The Guardian's Alexis Petridis put it "Some of the greatest pop music ever made, expertly played by a ferociously well-drilled band. It was fantastic."

From what we can gather from the twittersphere and Facebook, they did indeed rock it. Although they were up against both Portishead and the Arctic Monkeys who also performed blinders at the same time on other stages.

Rich Hilton, keyboard player with the band and regular guest on our Sonic TALK podcast was there for his first Glastonbury experience, "I confess I love playing outside in the cold. I think it goes back to outdoor ice hockey as a kid."

The best glasto performance I've seen so far.

If I had to nit-pick I'd say please turn Mr Rodger's guitar down abit. It drowned out the superb Bass playing. And Nile..yes we know about your legacy, no need to remind us how great you are between every song. :-)

There was a full concert video (1hr:36m) on YouTube that I managed to get before it disappeared, probably was up for less than an hour!!! That darn BBC licence fee prevents anyone else seeing it :(
