Kaivo Physical Modeling Synth From Madrona Labs

Kaivo is a new synthesizer from Madrona Labs. It takes some of the latest research in physical modeling and puts it into a user-friendly interface. Kaivo is a deep well of sounds. Coming this fall!

 

There are a few other physical modeling synths out there - Logic Studio's Sculpture is one, also Applied Acoustics (AAS) do several physical modelling instruments.

Although I have several AAS PM synths, Sculpture in Apple's Logic is by far my favorite. I use it to create some really abstract sounds that still have the complex harmonic interaction of acoustic instruments. Kaivo might be something I'd be interested in.

Agreed, Sculpture is a really powerful tool for some very off the wall sound design. "Playing" physical objects with drum loops or vocal samples via the sidechain is a favourite of mine. The interesting thing with Kaivo is taking that into the Buchla-esque world of thinking and the addition of the granular playback module, gate etc. So nice to see a designer embracing the unusual possibilities that creating an instrument in software offers, in a sea of VA and vintage emulations.
