Magma has announced pricing and availability for three new Thunderbolt to PCIe Expansion products and two new PCIe to PCIe Expansion products. The product family, previewed here last month, is called ROBEN-3 (pronounced "robin") and Magma says that it is designed to be the "ultimate sidekick" expansion solution for creative professionals. Here's the details in their own words...
The new ROBEN-3 line of expansion computing systems, featuring Thunderbolt™ and PCI Express connectivity in a package that is more powerful, more versatile and rack-mountable. Engineered to Magma's 'mission critical' standards for performance and reliability, ROBEN-3 offers three full-length/full-height PCIe slots and can accept 5.25-inch peripherals, up to eight 2.5-inch drives, or an internal Mac mini. To support all of the system capabilities, ROBEN-3 systems feature Magma's exclusive Quiet Temperature Controlled (QTC) cooling and a 540-Watt power supply. When integrated with Magma's patented performance optimizing backplane, the ROBEN-3 is one of the most powerful and versatile expansion systems ever developed.
The hype is real. ROBEN-3 is simply the most anticipated technology release for serious creative professionals. Magma's next generation of Thunderbolt expansion chassis will power workstations to a whole new dimension, with an impressive display of super powers.
ROBEN-3 features 3-slots of PCIe expansion capacity with a robust, high speed backplane. The rack-mountable aluminum chassis was designed for integrated removable storage expansion, with room for up to 8 hot pluggable 2.5" SSD, SAS or SATA hard drives. This added power can be channeled through lightning fast Thunderbolt technology at 10Gbps, with the option of 20Gbps bandwidth with the roll-out of Thunderbolt 2 capable devices. With 3-Slot PCIe and internal storage expansion, ROBEN-3 empowers the serious audio, video, and design professional to transform their computer into a powerful workstation - a sidekick for the creative hero.
ROBEN-3 also allows you the option to host a Mac mini within the chassis creating an integrated rackmount server with direct Thunderbolt connection to 3-slot PCIe expansion slots. Mac mini external connectivity is provided through the front and rear panels, including a secure iLok housing allowing you to lock your valuable application or plug-in licenses right to the chassis.
