Those of you that are viewers of our weekly Sonic TALK podcast may know that regular guest Gaz Williams has been working intensively on an album project using Cubase in recent months.

During this time, he's been using a few advanced techniques.

In this tutorial,  Gaz shows us how to use Cubase tempo detection to work with a live recording where there is no click track.

What this means in practice is that you can work on edits, additional programming chops, beats etc without having to straighten out the recording, allowing the grid to follow the tempo rather than govern it. It's a really major workflow enhancement if you are working with non-tempo based recordings, thoroughly recommended viewing.
