Roland has announced the Super UA, described as a high-performance USB 2.0 audio interface featuring proprietary S1LKi technology. They say that, offering exceptional sound with 1-bit DSD and 32-bit PCM playback, VS Preamps, monitor control functions, and more, the flexible Super UA is ideal for use in personal music studios, mobile applications, and other situations where superior audio resolution is desired. Here's the details in roland's own words...
Sleek and compact, the Super UA provides up to four simultaneous channels of 24-bit PCM recording. Roland's newly developed S1LKi audio engine also enables native four-channel playback of DSD audio sampled at 2.8 MHz, as well as PCM playback at rates up to 32-bit/192 kHz. Using the same type of 1-bit D/A converter used in DSD, S1LKi produces ultra-smooth, unclouded sound when compared to standard D/A conversion in typical PCM-based devices.
With its impressive die-cast metal design, the Super UA brings a premium look and feel to any music workspace. Low-profile panel buttons allow users to select inputs and switch output routing among multiple monitors and headphones. A large multi-function knob delivers a smooth feel for adjusting input and listening levels, while the high-resolution LED meters make it easy to view signals at a glance.
The Super UA is equipped with two TRS inputs and two TRS outputs, plus a connector for the included breakout module that provides two additional channels of I/O via XLR connectors. The two XLR mic inputs on the breakout module feature Roland's VS Preamps, widely acclaimed for their clear, transparent sound and low-noise performance.
The Super UA's main unit can be easily detached from the breakout module to perform as a two-in/two-out mobile interface when traveling. A high-performance headphone amplifier is integrated into the main unit as well, with 1/4-inch and 1/8-inch jacks providing compatibility with a variety of headphone types. Both jacks can be used at once, allowing two people to monitor with headphones simultaneously.
Via low-latency ASIO and Core Audio drivers, the Super UA delivers high-level performance with popular music software on Windows and Mac platforms. Included control panel software allows users to easily adjust signal levels for direct monitoring and other applications.
