In the corner of the palatial Yamaha booth that occupied most of the ground floor west wing of the Marriott Hotel next to the convention centre, was a collection of some of the rarest synthesizers from the Yamaha legacy. This year, in case you didnt realise, is the 40th anniversay of Yamaha synths.

On display were the SY2, with roots int he Electone organs, CS-15, CS-30 and the beautiful CS-80. FM was  well represented too with the GS1, DX-1 (my personal favourite) and blinged out DX-7 Centennial. Finally the physical modelling VL-1 and super rare VL3 were there.

We spoke to long time Yamaha employee and awesome dude Avery Burdette, who gave us a brilliant insight into the technology and history behind these instruments.

We apologize for the poor sound - it was super noisy there. But still one of my favourite NAMM moments.
