Klanghelm tells us that, after almost two years of R&D, their new compressor has been released, and, as with previous Klanghelm releases, there's a free little brother too. They say that the new compressor consists of three very different variable-mu compressor models, offering a wide range of tube compression implementations. Here's the story in their own words...
MJUC
MJUC is the most effortful plugin to date. It took almost two years of extensive, dare I say "excessive", research and development. To create MJUC I've researched and analyzed each and every variable-mu implementation I could get my hands on to get the best of tube compression into a single processor. In order to do the diversity of this compression topology justice, three different models have been build. These are kind of a time travel though the history of tube compression to capture the essence of each generation. Each model has its own dedicated signal path and dedicated control set. If desired you can tweak the overall tone and saturation of each model with the unique TIMBRE and the DRIVE control. DRIVE controls the load of the input and output transformers as the saturation of the tube gain stages, if applicable. The TIMBRE extends MJUC's use as a tone shaping device.
MJUC is the first Klanghelm plugin, that's built with the help of a new framework. That's brings a lot of new usability features such as GUI-resizing, AB-ing and a feature-rich platform independent preset browser with save/copy/paste/save-as-default functionality. Furthermore it's possible to tweak the knob behavior, enable tooltips, show/hide value labels and more. All these features will find their way to the existing Klanghelm plugin as soon as possible.

MJUC jr.
MJUC jr. is the little brother of the colorful MJUC.
It's a variable-mu design with lots of vibe. capable of smooth leveling but also heavy pumping effects. With its two gain stages and interstage transformer simulation it offers a very deep and lively soundstage.
The three-position timing switch not only controls the attack and release times of the unit, but also the slew rate of the transformers and the timing of the other parts of the circuitry, that are directly influencing the generated harmonics (saturation).
MJUC jr. is a mix of Mk1 and Mk2 of its big brother MJUC. It's combining very natural, dense compression characteristics of the early days of this type of compression with a more forward sounding approach and more harmonics creating of the variable-mu comps of the early 1960s.
Klanghelm are keen to point out that "variable-mu" is the correct technical term for this compressor topology, but this term is also a registered trademark by Manley Labs®. When the term "variable-mu" is used here, it just refers to the technical correct term for this more than 70 year-old compressor topology. It is in no way intended to be confused with the product of the same name
