Synton is a name that many of you may not know. This small Dutch manufacturers products have gained legendary status due to the rarity and exclusivity of their synths. Some people know of their products but few people have actually played them.

Back in February we visited Sonar Traffic and were treated to a walkthrough of the Synton Syrinx, which is undoubtedly the company's most famous product.

The Fénix was born out of the ashes of the Synton company, it was a labour of love and never meant for mass production which is what makes it so unique.

"Bert and I designed the Fénix because none of my existing synthesizers gave me exactly the combination of facilities that I wanted. We did it for that reason alone -- it was the synthesizer that I wanted. Both of us work elsewhere so, even though the Fénix is now a reality, producing it will never be the main job for either of us, and we have no wish to become a mainstream synthesizer company. That's why we built just 25 Fénixes. Having said that, we've shipped these already, so we are going to build a further 50, but that will then be the end of it. We already have a queue for these 50, and at the current rate of production, we'll still be building them in the year 2000." - Marc Paping

(Disclaimer - This was shot the last day of Studio Stekker, most of the studio was empty until 4-5pm when last nights casualties started to surface. I knew Patrick would not be up for getting on camera to present a synth he did not know, so that is exactly what I made him do!)
