A Kickstarter campaign has just commenced for the Kurv, which its developers describe as a 'stringless' digital guitar that allows anyone to learn and play songs using touch, motion and gestures. The Kurv connects to iOS using Bluetooth which frees up your headphone jack for use with any compatible speakers, headphones or even a guitar amplifier, while an app includes 60 hit songs for musical beginners to get playing right away. The dsigners tell us that If you already play an instrument or know the basics of music, you can use the Kurv to compose your own songs. Kurv gives access to a full palette of chords, the chromatic scale, and the ability to link with recording software.

A spokesperson told us why they developed the Kurv, "Learning the guitar is not easy. It can be a frustrating process, especially in the early stages. As a result many people give up. At Kurv Music, we believe the joy of playing the guitar should be available to everyone. The Kurv takes you straight to playing the music. We designed it to fit the shape of your hand and reach of your fingers, which can comfortably touch eight distinct places on your palm. There are eight notes in an octave, eight notes in a scale and eight chords in a key."

Perhaps more interesting for Sonic State viewers is the option of using the Kurv as a MIDI controller. The Kurv Control Package includes two Kurvs, one for your left hand and one for your right.  Each movement and touch you perform can send a fully assignable MIDI signal, allowing real-time shaping of your sound in 3D space. Kurv integrates with software like Garageband, Logic Pro X and Ableton Live, giving you a new way to control your virtual instruments.
