Hot 97 have been talking to legendary Hip Hop producer Timbaland - he's the guy who pretty much changed the face of Hip Hop and R&B production with his work in the late 1990s. Innovating with a much more minimal style of groove, breaking away from the break beats and standard voicing. This lead to a completely new school of beats with producers like the Neptunes being able to be way more experimental - Kelis Milkshake anyone?
Frankly, he's a bit of a legend. In this long form interview he chews the fat on how technology has changed the entry point for many to get into production, but sees a shift from production to purely programming, which in his view is a different thing.
Things get interesting from around 6:15. Whats your favourite Timbaland production?
