Dave Smith Instruments has announced that it has collaborated with Pioneer DJ, the market leader in DJ equipment and software, to provide the sound engine for the company's TORAIZ AS-1 monophonic analog synthesizer. The new instrument boasts a two-VCO voice, and low-pass and high-pass filters all adapted from the Prophet-6, a touchpad-style keyboard, digital effects also adapted from the Prophet-6, a 64-step sequencer, arpeggiator, and a touch slider. In addition, you can save up to 495 of your own programs in the 5 user banks, and you can assign up to 13 programs as Quick programs to each key on the keyboard and instantly recall them at any time.

The new synthesizer is the second musical instrument in Pioneer DJ's TORAIZ series. Its release follows the launch of their TORAIZ SP-16 live sampler in August of 2016. You can connect the TORAIZ AS-1 synth to the TORAIZ SP-16 live sampler via MIDI and use the sampler's sequencer to create even more complex patterns with the sounds you've created in the synthesizer. Together, the two TORAIZ instruments can be connected to a DJM mixer via Pro DJ Link and MIDI for set-ups where the CDJs play a track, the TORAIZ SP-16 adds loops and one-shots, and the TORAIZ AS-1 generates analog leads in sync with the BPM of the music.

Said Dave Smith: "When Pioneer DJ approached us about adapting our sound engine from the Prophet-6 in order to develop the AS-1, we were enthusiastic. With their expertise and deep knowledge of the live-performance market, we knew it would be exciting." Added Smith: "The AS-1 has the awesome sound of a classic analog mono synth. When people play it and hear that sound, they're going to find lots of ways to put it to good use."

Pricing and Availability:
The TORAIZ AS-1 is manufactured and sold by Pioneer DJ Corporation. It will be available in March of 2017 with a US MAP of $499. Price and specifications subject to change.
