Large format 'vintage style' condenser mics are always eye-catching at shows, and the L22 from Townsend Labs certainly caught mine... but there's way more going on under the hood with this one than most...
Turns out both front and rear of the capsule are taken as separate outputs into a proprietary plugin - the Sphere Modelling System - which then uses the information to do some pretty impressive sonic feats; such as making a single microphone sound like a range of other iconic models; or taking a vintage mic model and giving it unheard of polar patterns to aid the recording process and broaden your sonic palette.
It can even turn sideways and become a stereo mic.

It's hard to tell on a noisy show floor, but if this single mic does all it's purported to do and sounds the part, it could in theory replace an eye-wateringly expensive mic cupboard with a single mic.
Course, you'd still need more than one for multi-tracking ;-]
