ROLI have just announced a new addition to the ROLI Blocks range - the new Seaboard Block - its a mini, 2 octave version of their Seaboard multi-dimensional MIDI controller, with a 2-octave Seaboard keyboard and like the rest of the Blocks range has the ability to snap together to create a larger playing surface.
At $299/£279 it makes it the most affordable Seaboard in the range offering the same X/Y/Z, pressure and release velocity controller expression of the larger models.
Also launched is the new Touch Block which snaps on to the rest of the range and can be used to adjust the touch and expression response of the Touchpad and RISE Block. Priced at $79/£69
One of the main issues with the Seaboard has been the cost (and the modification of playing technique), so the new Seaboard Block gives another way to get into the ROLI way of playing with increased expression.
Playing the Seaboard does require some modification of your standard keyboard technique to get the most out of it, with positional information translated in MPE (Multi-dimensional Polyphonic Expression) but many people who do put the time in have found it it a rewarding investment of time.
