The human voice is of course one of the most direct ways to express yourself, endlessly variable and working at the speed of thought, it makes sense as a sound source. SOMA Laboratory - makers of the recently reviewed Lyra 8 - Organismic Drone Synthesizer are working on a new product called PIPE which harnesses that.
A combination of vocal contact microphone and dynamic digital processing it as one might expect is capable of some fairly radical sounds. As with the Lyra 8, its not going to be for everyone, but it does follow in the same footsteps with an "out there" vibe. Kind of looks like some kind of law enforcement breathalyser device.
PIPE has 8 different algorithms: ORPHEUS, FILTERRA, REVERB, PULSE, BASS DRUM, OCTAVA, GENERAT and HARCHO.
Pipe is currently under development and as with the Lyra, you can preorder Pipe directly from SOMA by sending an email to them - details on the PIPE page. Early price estimates seem to be in the region of €400.
