I'm probably out of step with our throw-away society, but isn't this particularly depressing coming from a company with Epiphone's legacy?

It would be incredibly sad if a single servicable guitar ends up trashed because of this. No matter how crappy a guitar, I'm pretty sure there's some poor kid out there who would appreciate any hand-me-down.

How about a competition for the best customisation of a really crappy guitar? Or does Epiphone think that would involve too much effort and creativity on the part of their target audience? (Yes, I *know* it wouldn't fit with the 'Appetite for Destruction' thing, so how about a 'Use Your Illusion' competition instead?)
