Regarding your Akai problems. Solution #1, buy some used Akai's! I got a mint S6000 3 years ago for $600 and they're probably less by now. Solution #2 - CDXtract software will translate pretty much to and from anything.

almost forgot: a few years ago akai announced a virtual version of their Z-something samplers, but never released it. Pity for us S6000 owners as of course it'd read the same libraries/pgms.
