The Nord stand was a massive curving red affair adorned with red synths and keyboards - including a new Modular G2 system. The G2s on show here were still work in progress, at least on the software side, but there were some patches to demonstrate the new system. We spoke with Hans Nordelius - yep that name does look familiar, he's the founder of the company and designer of the first Nord Lead and subsequent range of synths. The previous Nord Modular system had outgrown it's on board DSP and memory which meant new updates and modules would face the limitations imposed on it by the hardware so a totally new approach was called for. The Modular G2 and it's rackmount version were designed with new DSPs and a higher memory spec to enable newer physical modelling and on board effects such as delays and reverbs to be introduced. The other driving force in it's design was to make it more of a performance instrument to give the player expressivity. The new G2 comes with Nord's familiar wooden pitch wheel and stone mod wheel plus a complex on-board sequencer doubling as 10x8 parameter access. It also sports four outputs, four inputs, a mic input and many more surface controls with a larger LCD for feedback. The Nord team were looking forward to getting back to Sweden to work on creating the all new patches that will ship with the G2.
