SNAMM03: MicroKontrol From Korg
It’s micro and a Kontroller

Korg enter the controller market for the first time and with quite a bang too. The new microKontrol ‘MIDI Studio Center’ follows in the footsteps of the diminutive microKorg footsteps being the operative word, as it features the same size case and mini keys. To us it looks like a pretty useful programming interface for beats, basslines and softsynths- with the added bonus of sequencer control. It’s got a nice aluminium casing, and is surprisingly packed with features:
  • 37 mini keys
  • 8 assignable faders
  • 8 assignable pots
  • 16 velocity sensitive pads can transmit note and or controller values, including transport control..
  • USB MIDI interface MIDI in + out.
  • 12 user memories for template storage
  • 8 dual colour (red/green) backlit LCD displays show parameter names and values very nifty
  • Template editor and drivers for Windows XP and Mac OSX Some may moan about the size of the keys, but lets face it, this is a unit designed for use as a programming interface for beats, basslines and the like, to which it is well suited. A carry bag is available as an accessory. The microKontrol will be available in the Autumn of this year, price to be confirmed.
