Last month we were lucky enough to be invited to spend a day with a Moog System 55 in the heart of East London.

Shacked up in one of the bedrooms at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, the Moog SoundLab is a touring electronic music studio, stocked with Moog instruments, including the System 55, a stack of MoogerFoogers, Little Phatty's, Voyagers and more. The aural reproduction is brought by British Hifi manufacturers Bowers & Wilkins.

Throughout August artists where granted 4 days and 4 nights to make music on the system with the aim to create performances and a collection of compositions that will be released at a later date.

The studio has appeared at the Surrey University Institute of Recording where BAFTA nominated Mica Levi worked on new pieces, The Supersonic Festival residency at Birmingham City University with Gazella Twin and the three day 'Moog Concordance' at The Barbican headlined by a live performance by New York electronic punk pioneers Suicide. We also managed to catch it briefly at Womad festival, where we think we saw the first ever case of wiggling in wellies!

SoundLab engineer Finlay Shakespeare (Future Sound Systems) was on hand to give a run down of the studio and also show us some of the interesting quirks of the System 55.
