This has to be one of the simplest and cleverest things I saw at Messe - inventor John-Michael Haugdahl was on the Funnel Tunnel booth showing his new creation; acoustic treatment which fits right over a microphone.

The demo showed it around a kick-drum, and there was a sound demo with 2 identical guitar amp/mic setups, with an A/B switch selecting which mic you listened to on headphones - and the difference was amazing, really much more difference between the sounds than I was expecting.

I grabbed the camera, got a few words with John-Michael, and plugged the headphone output into the camera rig while he played guitar and switched between setups, so you can get an idea of the sound difference.

John-Michael explained he was working in a studio when he came up with the idea - made a prototype and ran some tests - and was so impressed he decided to make it into a product.
I wish him well with it - simple but effective, a great idea.
