After much speculation, it’s now official. Brian Eno is producing the next Coldplay album. During an interview on BBC’s Front Row Eno spoke about the new record saying he thinks it will be ‘very original and quite different from anything they have done before.’ He commented that bands normally work with him when they are exploring new directions with their music. When asked about the current state of the Music Industry, Eno said it was ‘terrific and frightening’ and talked about how easy it has become to make and distribute music. The downside of that being that there is less attention afforded to any individual piece. He said he thought that music was in a ‘digestive and retrospective’ period with alot of guitar bands sounding like Talking Heads. He was surprised that David Byrne’s influence on music has stayed dormant for so long. He finished the interview by saying that the new Coldplay album will sound nothing like Talking Heads! Coldplay will debut new material on their shows in South America later in the month.
The dates are as follows: February 2007 14+15+16 Santiago Espacio Riesco
20+21+22 Buenos Aires Gran Rex
26+27+28 Sao Paolo Via
March 2007 03 Mexico City National Auditorium
Eno's Art
Eno currently has sound and light installations at Selfridges in the West End and The Baltic in Gateshead. Details on the installation from the Baltic Arts Centre:
