Yamaha are showcasing their mLAN digital music network at this year’s AES show. They intend to demonstrate 80 digital audio channels over cable runs of over 100metres. The cabling will relay data between the Yamaha booth (318), Otari booth (430) and the mLAN booth (618), networked on the show floor using long distance fiber optic cables and NEC 1394 long distance repeaters. mLAN-capable equipment is connected with a single standard 1394 cable, which provides audio, word clock, MIDI I/O, and additionally, comprehensive signal routing of the connected gear.
