Digidesign announced the new Digidesign C|24 mid-format control surface for Pro Tools|HD and Pro Tools LE systems at AES. Digidesign tell us that C|24 draws upon the legacy of the Digidesign Control|24, offering a professional, powerful, and affordable solution for adding tactile Pro Tools recording and mixing control to any studio. They say that, in addition to its sleek industrial design, C|24 offers improved user workflow and Pro Tools integration as well as completely updated analogue circuitry throughout.
Gannon Kashiwa, market manager for Digidesign’s professional products, told us, “The original Control|24 literally changed the way that engineers worked with Pro Tools by offering a level of tactile control that was simply unachievable with third-party devices. This level of integration, and the benefits that it provided, sparked an evolution in workflow that is the standard in thousands of music and post-production facilities today. Over the years Digidesign has continued to lead the development of integrated control surface technology. The new C|24 benefits from this experience by bringing the latest advancements in industrial design, integrated software and hardware workflow, and mic preamp technology to the mid-sized control surface segment that we helped to define nearly seven years ago.
What Digidesign say about the C|24…
C|24 features a sleek industrial design that combines a highly-advanced control surface with a full complement of analogue inputs and a versatile monitoring section. Digidesign’s proprietary Ethernet-based communication protocol offers vastly superior control when compared to similarly-priced control surfaces, most of which employ the slower and less extensible HUI protocol. C|24 also integrates a full-featured analogue front-end with 16 low-noise mic/line/DI preamps, each with high-pass filters, plus a 5.1 surround monitor system with trimmable inputs and outputs. It also provides an 8x2 stereo submixer that is routable directly to the monitor system, and a built-in talkback microphone, plus inputs for remote talkback and listenback mics.
The intuitive control surface offers 24 fully bankable control strips, each with premium, touch-sensitive, motorized 100mm faders and dedicated, LED-illuminated switches for Mute, Solo, Select, Input, Record Arm, EQ, Dynamics, Insert, Send, and Automation functions. The control surface also features 24 rotary encoders with LED rings, and a bright, easily readable, dual-row LED scribble strip display. With its high-quality construction, modern low-profile graphite design, and bold graphics, C|24 is elegant enough to command the centre of attention in any professional environment, from post-production and music facilities to artist and project studios.
Pricing and Availability:
C|24 has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of £5,995 (exc. VAT), and will be available in November 2007 through authorised Digidesign dealers. At the time of launch, Digidesign will also offer two compelling C|24 bundles that combine either a Pro Tools|HD or Pro Tools LE system with a C|24, plus a selection of Digidesign plug-ins, at significant savings…
