Danny is something of a pioneer in Drum n' Bass terms. In fact the category Liquid Funk was virtually invented exclusively to describe his new take on the D'n'B in the late 90's. And when he hooked up with Hospital Records in 2000, he became an unstoppable tour de force with the singles 'Do It Again' and 'Changes'. His second album for Hospital, 'Supersized' was released last month and looks set to turn him into something of a D'n'B deity. Not that you’d know it from chatting to him. His 'good guy' persona and self deprecating sense of the ridiculous are matched only by his boundless energy in the studio.
In Part 1, Danny de-constructs his drum techniques concentrating on kick, snare and hi-hats.
In Part 2 (coming soon) he moves on to cymbals, loops, side-chaining and processing.
Part 3 of the series concentrates on Basslines, leadlines, mid riffs and subsonic stuff.
Danny also chats about being influenced by Prodigy and hardcore rave in his school days. Finishing a B-Tec course, setting up his own studio and getting 'that call' from Hospital Records. Also, you get to hear tracks from the new album. So what could be better? Enjoy! Simon Power
