Bo Bracey (dirge@inxpress.net) writes:
With all the oscillators, and the neat-o multiwave, this is a programmer's synth. Many of the sounds included with the keyboard are boring and monotonous. The drums are horrible. It has built-in FX, with your typical assortment of algorithms: reverb, flange, delay, chorus, a rotospeaker/distortion simulator, and various combinations of these. This synth is not as legendary or as useful as the ESQ-1 or SQ-80 for techno or industrial, but hey, Front242 did alot of Tyranny For You on it. Those Ensoniq patch-select buttons were in their alpha stages I think, because the ones on mine freak out all the time, causing the waveforms in the sound to blip in and out. I have heard of warnings of maintenance problems with the VFX, and I must say I believe them. I have had mine in for repair 4 times. (Look on the VFX Home Page for some of these known problems -- I have had these problems and more.) I am sure there are many, many VFX users who do not experience these problems, but I (and evidently a significant amount of others) am not one of them. :-) Overall, a good synth for 400-500 American dollars! ! !

Comments About the Sounds:
Somewhat difficult to program. 6 oscillators and lots of modulation sources gives one alot of options. Having only 18 voices for all these oscillators can be a bit frustrating at times.

(Thanks to Bo Bracey for this info.)
