preset box BUT has 8 trigger buttons allowing you to make your own rythms (no user memory though) i opened mine up and discovered tone os editable setting with the ptentiometeres like bass decay snare roll speed filter for snare volumes for drums sounds ect ect... def worth the 80$ i paid for it!! heavy and built like a tank
