Emptied the piggy bank and scored the XR for £879, got it home and was impressed instantaniously with the superb pallete of sounds, very diverse from brand new dance waveforms/pads/beeps etc to fabulous ethnic percussion and everything inbetween. The editor/librarian is simple to connect and easy to use thanks to the USB plug. But..the sampler is the top dog of this unit. Got 512mb dimm for £25 and suddenly the XR turns into a hard disk recorder and remixer. Your work can be saved to compact flash/smartmedia or just send it to your comp via the USB. To be fair some sounds (which is normal for Roland) can be a bit harsh resonance wise but use your controller and all becomes well...my RM1x loves the XR!!! Get one, chuck in the extra dimm (only takes one..be warned) and get the superb srx boards (up to 6!) and you have a 1GB sound source monster...

Comments About the Sounds:
diverse soundset, but loads for all tastes
